Independent business blogs are blogs that aren’t supported by an organization like a magazine, newspaper, company, or business school. Those people provide lots of great content, but they don’t need any additional exposure. In this post, every week, I bring you posts of quality from excellent bloggers that don’t get as much publicity.

“How well do you collaborate? Are you a team player? People have a natural tendency to work together and collaborate – as research shows. Cooperation is the basic driver of human civilization (according to author Dirk Messner). We all have a drive to belong to a group or team or tribe and feel acknowledged and respected and safe – even in individualistic cultures. In general, we tend to go to great lengths to adjust to our group culture. We copy the others, as I know very well from my organizational culture work. We also coach others to behave according to group norms and if they don’t adapt, we’ll correct them in a number of different ways.”
“Leadership starts with influence and influence starts with trust. Ability to truly connect with others is vital for leaders to build an environment where a leader is trusted for the intentions before being respected for competence.”
“You’ve seen the poster that states ‘there is no ‘I’ in TEAM.’ That statement promotes the absence of individuals on effective teams. That’s a crock. Every team has individuals. When those individuals align to the team’s purpose, values, behaviors, strategies, and goals, you have a shot at that team being productive and inspiring to serve upon.”
“Chances are you will initiate a change that affects your whole team or start a major team project in the near future. And chances are it will not make the impact you had hoped for.”
“There comes a time when every leader is stuck in a situation that requires decisions and solutions that aren’t forthcoming. Not all decisions are yours to make, but when they are and you’re stuck, take advice from others with caution. Even when there may be people around you who have more experience, skill, or wisdom than you do, it’s best not to jump too quickly into action with the advice they give.”

How I Select Posts for this Midweek Review
The five posts I select to share in my Midweek Review of the Independent Business Blogs are picked from a regular review of about sixty blogs I check daily and an additional twenty-five or so that I check occasionally. Here’s how I select the posts you see in this review.
They must be published within the previous week.
They must support the purpose of the blog: to help leaders at all levels do a better job and lead a better life.
They must be from an independent business blog.
As a general rule, I only select posts that stand on their own, no selections from a series.
Also as a general rule, I do not select posts that are either a book review or a book report.
I reserve the right to make exceptions to the above.
