When you try something, you get a result. If the result is not what you intended, you can make it a “failure” simply by labeling it “failure.”
Some people use failure as a motivation. If that’s you, then the failure label will spur you on. But other people take an emotional hit from failure. If that’s you, then using a different label (like “experiment” or “lesson”) will keep you moving forward productively
