There are always things you don’t know. Sometimes you know what you don’t know. That means you can find the answer. But what if you don’t know that you don’t know?

That’s dangerous. You’re most likely to encounter this when you’re doing something new, like starting a business or beginning a new and challenging project. Stay alert for things that don’t make sense. Ask your team members to do the same.

The most dangerous situation is when you’re absolutely sure about something you don’t know. That can turn your big idea into a smoking hole in the ground. Listen to complaints, push-back, criticism and challenges. Ask for more details. Help people who know you’re wrong save you.
