Research confirms what common sense suggests. Knowledge work is real work that uses up real energy. So, just as you save your physical energy for important physical tasks, do the same with your mental energy.

Do important work first. That way you use energy for what’s important.

Use automatic reminders to keep you on schedule without the need to tax memory and attention.

Use checklists to assure that you get routine tasks done without using up energy for remembering.

Take breaks to renew and refresh your mental energy stores.
