From the Independent Business Blogs: 9/7/22 post image

Independent business blogs are blogs that aren’t supported by an organization like a magazine, newspaper, company, or business school. Those people provide lots of great content, but they don’t need any additional exposure. In this post, every week, I bring you posts of quality from excellent bloggers that don’t get as much publicity.

This week, I’m pointing you to leadership posts by Terri Klass, Steve Keating, Gregg Vanourek, Jennifer V. Miller, and Lolly Daskal.

From Terri Klass: September Is The Time To Write Your 2022 Leadership Story

“Hands down, my favorite time of the year is the fall and especially the month of September. There is just something very hopeful and energizing for leaders as the autumnal equinox begins. Whether we anchor our leadership direction to the beginning of September or the 22nd (the actual date of the equinox), now is the time to start your plan of attack on several fronts.”

From Steve Keating: Living in Alignment With Your Core Values

“Most people have three ‘versions’ of themselves. There’s the version of themselves that they allow other people to see. There’s also a version of themselves that they show themselves when looking in the mirror. Then there’s the authentic version of themselves that they rarely allow anyone, sometimes including themselves, to see.”

From Gregg Vanourek: The Trap of Dissatisfaction–And Its Surprising Upside

“We all go through hard times in life, with setbacks and disappointments. It only becomes a trap if we experience a chronic sense of dissatisfaction—not being content or at peace with what we have. It’s a trap if we develop an enduring sense of disappointment, of never feeling at peace. Or a chronic craving or dwelling on things we lack. In this state, we’re missing a sense of acceptance, of contentment, of serenity.”

From Jennifer V. Miller: 5 Tips for Building Your Superhero Power at Work

“When we were kids, all it took was donning a beach towel cape and running through the neighborhood to make us feel strong and competent. A simple garment addition and voila! We were superheroes.”

From Lolly Daskal: 7 Misleading Phrases to Avoid in Every Leadership Conversation

“We all know that words matter—and the words of leaders have particular weight. In leadership and business it’s easy to fall prey to jargon and wordiness, but there are other phrases that mislead employees and signal poor leadership. Here are some of the most disruptive and defeating phrases I hear in my work as a leadership coach:”

How I Select Posts for this Midweek Review

The five posts I select to share in my Midweek Review of the Independent Business Blogs are picked from a regular review of about sixty blogs I check daily and an additional twenty-five or so that I check occasionally. Here’s how I select the posts you see in this review.

They must be published within the previous week.

They must support the purpose of the blog: to help leaders at all levels do a better job and lead a better life.

They must be from an independent business blog.

As a general rule, I only select posts that stand on their own, no selections from a series.

Also as a general rule, I do not select posts that are either a book review or a book report.

I reserve the right to make exceptions to the above.

Here, on Three Star Leadership, I post things that will help a boss at any level do a better job and live a better life. And, at my blog for part-time business book authors, I share tools and insights to help you write and publish a book you’ll be proud of.
