From the Independent Business Blogs: 9/16/20

Independent business blogs are blogs that aren’t supported by an organization like a magazine, newspaper, company, or business school. Those people provide lots of great content, but they don’t need any additional exposure. In this post, every week, I bring you posts of quality from excellent bloggers that don’t get as much publicity.

This week, I’m pointing you to posts by Steve Keating, Lolly Daskal, Alli Polin, Kevin Eikenberry, and Karin Hurt and David Dye.

From Steve Keating: The Power of Forgiveness

“when someone offends us we have two choices, we can forgive and get on with our lives or we can carry that offense around with us like an anchor.”

From Lolly Daskal: How To Be A Successful Leader From Home

“Before the pandemic, working from home was something that a few people did and a lot more were interested in trying out. Now it’s rather suddenly become a fact of life for entire workplaces and teams, and many of us are still working to adapt. If you’re finding it difficult to manage some elements of working with your team or even staying on top of your own workflow and habits in this new normal, here’s some great advice compiled from my clients who are experienced in successfully working and leading from home”

From Alli Polin: 20 Simple Actions to Bridge the Knowing and Doing Gap

“Want to shake my shoulders and tell me the obvious thing to do? Check the pantry before I go shopping? Sure, I know that, but don’t do that. Knowing and doing are not always logically linked. Think about it. What do you KNOW yet DON’T DO?”

From Kevin Eikenberry: Clearing the Path to Learning Today

“I know, you are busy. I know, the pandemic has changed the way you work, and possibly where you work. It has also added new worries and concerns to your life. Given all of this, it is possible you don’t feel you have time or even opportunity for learning today. Yet, the situation you find yourself in screams for growth and development, and remote learning might be the answer. Before you can decide how to learn, you must find a way to make time and space for that learning to take place.”

From Karin Hurt and David Dye: How to Make Training Work: Every Leader’s a Teacher

“Do you get frustrated with training that wastes time and money, but doesn’t change behavior? Yeah, us too. Your leadership development (or any type of training) should be practical, focused on your business, and get results. But how do you make training work and achieve a good return on your investment?”

That’s it for this week’s selections from independent business blogs. If you liked this piece you may enjoy my curation posts on this blog. On Fridays you can wrap up your week with “Weekend Leadership Reading” consisting of choice articles on hot leadership topics culled from the business schools, the business press and major consulting firms.

How I Select Posts for this Midweek Review

The five posts I select to share in my Midweek Review of the Independent Business Blogs are picked from a regular review of about sixty blogs I check daily and an additional twenty-five or so that I check occasionally. Here’s how I select the posts you see in this review.

They must be published within the previous week.

They must support the purpose of the blog: to help leaders at all levels do a better job and lead a better life.

They must be from an independent business blog.

As a general rule, I only select posts that stand on their own, no selections from a series.

Also as a general rule, I do not select posts that are either a book review or a book report.

I reserve the right to make exceptions to the above.

Here, on Three Star Leadership, I post things that will help a boss at any level do a better job and live a better life. And, at my blog for part-time business book authors, I share tools and insights to help you write and publish a book you’ll be proud of.

The 347 tips in my ebook can help you Become a Better Boss One Tip at a Time.
