From the Independent Business Blogs: 7/28/21

Independent business blogs are blogs that aren’t supported by an organization like a magazine, newspaper, company, or business school. Those people provide lots of great content, but they don’t need any additional exposure. In this post, every week, I bring you posts of quality from excellent bloggers that don’t get as much publicity.

This week, I’m pointing you to posts by Art Petty, Steve Keating, LaRae Quy, Sharlyn Lauby, and Dan Rockwell.

From Art Petty: Success Demands Unity of Purpose

“In too many of our organizations and on our teams, people are engaged at the transaction level. They work, meet, and deliver because it’s expected. They stop short of committing because something is missing from the environment. There’s a lack of unity of purpose.”

From Steve Keating: The Leadership Difference

“Lots and lots of people hold positions in their organizations that would indicate they are leaders. Many of them have some fancy title that would seem to confirm it. Too bad for them that neither a position or title can make them a leader.”

From LaRae Quy: How A Strong Mind Can Help People Recover From A Mistake

“Show me someone who has never made a mistake and I will show you someone who has never accomplished anything meaningful in their life. They are losers, people who are generally timid and lazy—and usually selfish because it’s all about their precious feelings.”

From Sharlyn Lauby: Digital Transformation is Rewriting Work

“In addition to having the right equipment, digital transformation is about thinking differently. During the virtual HR Technology Conference, Leapgen CEO Jason Averbook, shared a statistic that I thought really put digital transformation into perspective. He mentioned a global survey that said the pandemic sped up digital transformation strategies by an average of six years. I think this is significant.”

From Dan Rockwell: A Realistic Approach to Stress Management that doesn’t cause more Stress

“I hate the expression, ‘stress management’. I get stressed when people tell me to relax. Thick books about managing stress make my belly hurt.”

How I Select Posts for this Midweek Review

The five posts I select to share in my Midweek Review of the Independent Business Blogs are picked from a regular review of about sixty blogs I check daily and an additional twenty-five or so that I check occasionally. Here’s how I select the posts you see in this review.

They must be published within the previous week.

They must support the purpose of the blog: to help leaders at all levels do a better job and lead a better life.

They must be from an independent business blog.

As a general rule, I only select posts that stand on their own, no selections from a series.

Also as a general rule, I do not select posts that are either a book review or a book report.

I reserve the right to make exceptions to the above.

Here, on Three Star Leadership, I post things that will help a boss at any level do a better job and live a better life. And, at my blog for part-time business book authors, I share tools and insights to help you write and publish a book you’ll be proud of.
