From the Independent Business Blogs: 7/21/21

Independent business blogs are blogs that aren’t supported by an organization like a magazine, newspaper, company, or business school. Those people provide lots of great content, but they don’t need any additional exposure. In this post, every week, I bring you posts of quality from excellent bloggers that don’t get as much publicity.

This week, I’m pointing you to posts by Linda Fisher Thornton, David Dye, Kate Nasser, Art Petty, and Ed Batista.

From Linda Fisher Thornton: How Values Change Everything

“I think of values as a critical element in enabling and focusing individual and collective success. Values shape your life, leadership, career and relationships. If you are currently going through life without knowing what your values are, you’re missing out on a powerful force for good that can offer a turbo-charged boost to propel you to where you want to go.”

From David Dye: How to Deal with Team Conflict

“You’ve got a clear focus on what matters most, your team seems to work well together, but then you get that call: ‘I need to talk to you about …’ It’s conflict, a disagreement, or a clash of personalities. What you do next will reinforce your leadership and influence—or erode your credibility. Team conflict can feel like quicksand and a distraction from your work, but it’s an excellent opportunity to improve morale and productivity.”

From Kate Nasser: Daily Ways to Honor Work Colleagues, Employees, Customers, Friends, Family

“When we think of how to honor work colleagues, customers, or friends and family, we often imagine honoring them for some big event and doing it with an event. We honor people for their tremendous success, or their courage and sacrifice, etc… These moments are very important and honoring them is truly appropriate.”

From Art Petty: Is There a Leadership Reset Button?

“During a coaching call, a client recently commented, ‘I wish I could hit the reset button with my team.’ I’ve been thinking about it ever since. I know my younger self would have been quick to suggest that there were no do-overs in leadership. Perhaps I’ve mellowed a bit with time and experience, but I believe there are circumstances when either a hard or soft reboot can work for leaders. And, there are situations where any attempt at reset is futile.”

From Ed Batista: Confusing Motion with Progress

“Confusing motion with progress is an all-too-common mistake, and I see countless versions of it in my practice (and in my own life)”

How I Select Posts for this Midweek Review

The five posts I select to share in my Midweek Review of the Independent Business Blogs are picked from a regular review of about sixty blogs I check daily and an additional twenty-five or so that I check occasionally. Here’s how I select the posts you see in this review.

They must be published within the previous week.

They must support the purpose of the blog: to help leaders at all levels do a better job and lead a better life.

They must be from an independent business blog.

As a general rule, I only select posts that stand on their own, no selections from a series.

Also as a general rule, I do not select posts that are either a book review or a book report.

I reserve the right to make exceptions to the above.

Here, on Three Star Leadership, I post things that will help a boss at any level do a better job and live a better life. And, at my blog for part-time business book authors, I share tools and insights to help you write and publish a book you’ll be proud of.

The 347 tips in my ebook can help you Become a Better Boss One Tip at a Time.
