From the Independent Business Blogs: 5/18/22 post image

Independent business blogs are blogs that aren’t supported by an organization like a magazine, newspaper, company, or business school. Those people provide lots of great content, but they don’t need any additional exposure. In this post, every week, I bring you posts of quality from excellent bloggers that don’t get as much publicity.

This week, I’m pointing you to posts by David Dye and Karin Hurt, Kate Nasser, Lolly Daskal, Gregg Vanourek, and Art Petty.

From David Dye and Karin Hurt: How to Help Your Team Say No at Work

“For your team to say yes to what matters most, they also must say no to something else. ‘No’ is the best answer in many situations where a misplaced ‘yes’ can sabotage relationships, goals, and well-being. Here are five times when no is a good choice:”

From Kate Nasser: Biggest People Skills Leadership Challenge of Leading Diverse People

“Address the biggest people skills leadership challenge — listening — and you will change everything for the better. To lead people who are not all like you, you must listen, engage, and collaborate. The following information will help you.”

From Lolly Daskal: The Self-Defeating Habits That Are Holding Back Even Great Leaders

“Part of my job as an executive leadership coach is to help leaders identify and overcome the habits that are holding them back. Here are the top 10 self-defeating habits I’ve found that hinder even great leaders:”

From Gregg Vanourek: What Are Your Leadership Derailers?

“Here’s the thing: we all want to be better leaders. But too often we focus on what to do as leaders while neglecting what not to do. That’s where leadership derailers come in—the things that take us off track and inhibit our leadership effectiveness. If we want to be good leaders, we must be aware of our derailers and begin working on them.”

From Art Petty: Mine (and Mind) Your Mistakes for Growth

“Our mistakes in pursuit of learning are the burpees, extra gym time, and leg days of our mental fitness for most of us. For those where mistakes are measured in cost or time (not life impact or safety), your mistakes measure how hard you are pushing yourself to grow. While making a mistake never feels good, your response to the situation determines your return-on-misfire (ROM).”

How I Select Posts for this Midweek Review

The five posts I select to share in my Midweek Review of the Independent Business Blogs are picked from a regular review of about sixty blogs I check daily and an additional twenty-five or so that I check occasionally. Here’s how I select the posts you see in this review.

They must be published within the previous week.

They must support the purpose of the blog: to help leaders at all levels do a better job and lead a better life.

They must be from an independent business blog.

As a general rule, I only select posts that stand on their own, no selections from a series.

Also as a general rule, I do not select posts that are either a book review or a book report.

I reserve the right to make exceptions to the above.

Here, on Three Star Leadership, I post things that will help a boss at any level do a better job and live a better life. And, at my blog for part-time business book authors, I share tools and insights to help you write and publish a book you’ll be proud of.

The 347 tips in my ebook can help you Become a Better Boss One Tip at a Time.
