From the Independent Business Blogs: 1/19/22 post image

Independent business blogs are blogs that aren’t supported by an organization like a magazine, newspaper, company, or business school. Those people provide lots of great content, but they don’t need any additional exposure. In this post, every week, I bring you posts of quality from excellent bloggers that don’t get as much publicity.

This week, I’m pointing you to posts by Kate Nasser, Tanmay Vora, Scott Eblin, Gregg Vanourek, and LaRae Quy.

From Kate Nasser: People Skills Technique to Be Less Blunt Still Honest

“Use this emotionally intelligent people skills technique to be less blunt and still honest. It matters. Uninvited bluntness comes across as rude, hurtful, presumptuous, and yes, mean. Bluntness is not a right you can assume nor a gift you give someone. It’s a privilege others grant you sometimes when they trust you. So, be less blunt and still honest using the following people skills technique.”

From Tanmay Vora: Conversations That Build Psychological Safety

“Conversations that leaders have with their people are the drivers of psychological safety. The words that people use when dealing with conflicts, failures and during developmental conversations really define the culture of the team or organization.”

From Scott Eblin: How to Maintain Your Mojo This Year

“Still, all of that disruption had me feeling disconnected from my mojo over the past couple of days. This morning, I started getting it back. To do that, I recommitted to a number of routines that I’ve coached and written about for years. It’s that old idea of practicing what you preach. Here’s what I’m doing to maintain my mojo. A lot of my clients tell me their own versions of these routines are working for them as well.”

From Gregg Vanourek: What Leads to Happiness?

“We all want to be happy—and for those we care about to be happy. Here’s the problem: we’re unclear and often badly mistaken about what will bring us happiness. We’re inundated with messages from family, friends, ads, and social media about what will make us happy. Most of these messages are wrong.”

From LaRae Quy: How To Gain Control Over Burnout, The Other Epidemic

“Yes, it’s tempting to blame the pandemic for most of what ails us these days. Health organizations, however, offer a different perspective—the pandemic has exacerbated a problem that has been around for years. It’s called burnout.”

How I Select Posts for this Midweek Review

The five posts I select to share in my Midweek Review of the Independent Business Blogs are picked from a regular review of about sixty blogs I check daily and an additional twenty-five or so that I check occasionally. Here’s how I select the posts you see in this review.

They must be published within the previous week.

They must support the purpose of the blog: to help leaders at all levels do a better job and lead a better life.

They must be from an independent business blog.

As a general rule, I only select posts that stand on their own, no selections from a series.

Also as a general rule, I do not select posts that are either a book review or a book report.

I reserve the right to make exceptions to the above.

Here, on Three Star Leadership, I post things that will help a boss at any level do a better job and live a better life. And, at my blog for part-time business book authors, I share tools and insights to help you write and publish a book you’ll be proud of.

The 347 tips in my ebook can help you Become a Better Boss One Tip at a Time.
