Ebenezer Scrooge had to deal with the Ghost of Christmas Past. You have to deal with the ghost of bosses past. When you become responsible for the performance of a new group, your team members expect you to act like other bosses they’ve had before.
Get the issue on the table during your private chats. Ask them to describe what they liked and disliked about the bosses they’ve had in their life. You’ll discover a lot about your challenges and about what different team members prefer and despise. Use that to begin a dialogue about expectations.
