What I’m Reading Now: Quiet

I’ve submitted to a variety of personality profiles over the last 50 years. Sometimes, I come out as a weak introvert. Other times, I’m a weak extrovert. A psychologist friend of mine describes me as an ambivert.

I picked up Susan Cain’s book, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in A World That Can’t Stop Talking, for two reasons. Several books I read cited it as a revolutionary source of insight. The trigger to buy Quiet was several conversations with good friends. We discussed introversion, extroversion, how each works, and what businesses seem to expect. I’m hoping that Quiet will give me some insight.

I worry about two things. I worry the book will degenerate into an “extroverts bad, introverts good” presentation. Also, Quiet was published seven years ago. I worry it won’t seem as revolutionary in 2019 as it might have in 2012.

Have you read the book? What did you think of it? Am I right to worry?
