What I’m Reading Now: Great Leaders Have No Rules

I have a rigorous process for selecting the books to read. First, I get interested because a friend or respected source recommends the book. Then I check out the reviews and content and decide whether or not to read the book. But sometimes I just throw all that overboard. That’s what I did with Kevin Kruse’s latest book, Great Leaders Have No Rules: Contrarian Leadership Principles to Transform Your Team and Business.

I already knew Kevin through his regular columns in Forbes. I like his relevant, common-sense content and the way he expresses himself. So, I was already a fan. One part of his title pulled my “YES!” lever, and I bought the book right away.

What was it, you ask? It was the part about “Transform Your Team.” Too many of the leadership books I read are directed at the folks at the very top of the org chart. Others are aimed at a specific audience, like my e-book, Now You’re the Boss: Making the Most Important Transition in Business.

The title tells me Kevin wrote the book for most leaders in business. Today, we all work in teams. Forget that mushy stuff about “Everyone is a leader” or “You can lead from anywhere, even without position.” The first is nonsense. The second is rare.

Great Leaders Have No Rules is a book by a writer whose work I like that promises to address real-world issues.

Have you read the book? What will I like? What should I look out for?
