Book Review Short Take: Rising Together post image

There are, conservatively, 300 gazillion books published every year. No one has the time to list them, let alone read them or review them. That’s a problem because there’s a lot of value in many books you may not hear about because of the clutter.

“Short Takes” is my humble effort to cut through the clutter and highlight business books that might be perfect for your next read. Here’s why I think Rising Together: How We Can Bridge Divides and Create a More Inclusive Workplace might be a good choice for you.

Reading Sally Helgesen’s stuff can be insightful. It can also be habit-forming. Over the years, I’ve learned to expect sharply formed and well-supported ideas. As a writer myself and a book writing coach, I’ve also admired her clear writing.

That’s why I’m doing something a little different with this short take. Instead of sharing other people’s reviews, I chose pieces that would let you hear her voice as well as her ideas. Here are three pieces she wrote about Rising Together and an interview with her on McKinsey’s Author Talks.

From Sally Helgesen: Rising Together

“Publication day for my last book, How Women Rise, co-authored with Marshall Goldsmith, actually planted the seed for Rising Together, though I couldn’t have known it at the time. It all began in the Warwick Hotel, where I usually stay when I’m in New York City. I was there for a full week, doing media interviews and a few guest gigs on TV to promote the book. But I spent much of the time in my hotel room doing radio shows all over the US and Canada by phone.”
