7 Deadly Sins for Bosses

  |   Leadership Print Friendly and PDF

If you’re a boss, there are Seven Deadly Sins that can
destroy your effectiveness and your reputation. Here they are, in no particular
order.

Favoritism. Playing favorites poisons the team environment.

Arbitrariness. Team members need to know what to expect from
you. When they don’t know, they shift effort from working to protecting
themselves.

Indecision. Part of your job is making decisions. If you
can’t or won’t, get out of the way and let someone else have a shot.

Lack of communication. If people don’t know what you want or
expect, they will guess. This hardly ever ends well.

Lying. Why should they follow you if they can’t believe you?

Letting problems fester. Problems do not heal themselves.
They get worse.

Acting like it’s about you. It’s not. It’s about
accomplishing the mission and caring for the people.
