A coach can help you dramatically improve your life and your results. If you're considering using a coach, here's how to select a coach that's right for you.

Does the coach I'm considering work on this issues I want to improve?

My experience is that if you are seeking to improve a single, specific area of you life, such as your time management or your writing skills, you will do best to seek out a coach who specializes in that area. If you want to improve your life and results in ways that cut across skill boundaries, you should seek out a generalist. I am a generalist.

Does the coach work with people like me?

First, think about your general situation. Are you considering areas that cut across business and home life, or do you want to work on one or the other? Some coaches specialize in a particular area, such as family relationships or career issues. Others work with people in specific industry or geographic area. I work with people interested in improving a life that includes business. I do almost all my work over the phone.

Coaches tend to work best with a specific kind of developmental challenge. Some work best with people in the early stage of a career; some are best with people who need to build their confidence as well as their skills. I work best with self-confident people who are already successful, but want to accelerate their growth, development, and success.

What's it cost?

There are almost as many rates and billing methods as there are coaches. I charge $75 per phone consultation. The consultation lasts as long as necessary. Most run somewhere between twenty minutes and an hour. Hardly any have ever run longer than an hour and a half.

Is there a guarantee?

Some coaches guarantee their work, others don't. My guarantee is simple. We do the work. Then I bill you. You can choose to pay the invoice amount, or more, or less. You are the sole judge of how much value you received. All that I ask is that whatever you decide, you let me know your reasons.

We'll schedule a brief telephone conversation to determine if we want to go further. There is no charge for this session, whatever the outcome. I'll be asking you questions about who you are, where you are in life, and what you want me to help you accomplish.

You should be asking me questions that help you decide if I'm a good fit for you, including questions about the issue that got you to call in the first place. Fairly often, this session will give you the help you need. If that happens you will have gotten helpful advice for free and I will have made a friend. Those are good outcomes.

If we both think it's a good idea to go ahead with a more formal arrangement, we'll schedule a time for a coaching session.

After the session, I'll ask you if you got value from our time together. Then I'll send you a PayPal invoice for the session. You can pay the invoice amount or more or less as you see fit.
